Programme Booklet - CSM 2012

The design for this year is based on the theme: running. It is easily associated with any kind of sports event so I don't think I have to elaborate further on this. In view of the limited mental stamina I had then (and till now), I was hoping to create something simple yet effective in visual communication.

The composition on the cover page is made symmetrical by having a girl running ahead of another. (Yes both girls hahah!) Besides, the text is arranged and centralised such that the viewers' focus will be led from HC-NY to the school logos to the Guest-of-Honour and some how stays on the 黄女士 in the middle of the hour-glass shaped text.

Also, one thing that made this symmetrical composition feasible is the length of the GOH's description. Personally, I have no preference nor could I do anything about the information that goes into my design. I'm just glad that they gave me something different this year so that I won't have to crack my brain thinking how to vary the compositions. xP

Trying to be as simplistic as I could (also to reserve mental stamina x.x), only colours and forms of the running girls are purposefully varied. No other elements were added as compared to the random obstacle, textures etc created in my previous design. Nevertheless, the lazy me still tried something special this year :p I don't think anyone noticed this but I actually used our school colours in my design! Woohoo~~! Perhaps that's why this design looks so propaganda-ish to me. Otz I want the GOH's copy of this next year! >D (if I'm still the designer...hope not)

Thanks for viewing! Honestly, which one would you prefer? :) Feel free to leave your comments at the side ^^) ->

  1. Hi chien!
    Svena here:)))
Haha you actually quite hardworking babe!!!You do update quite frequently I see:) so keep it up dear~And sleep well.
But onto the comments, I'm actually quite surprised and pleasantly pleased at the amount of designs you do for school stuff-- you designed your cca's poster, board, the school fun fair flyer thing, and I think others which I didn't yet see and now this!Whew, I love the designs that you made, although not too complicated, but it communicates what you want to say quite effectively~And don't worry, I noticed the yellow and blue colors that you used straightaway, so i think many would too. Also, somehow, while bending to the schools' criteria of a booklet, you also managed to incorporate your own unique style too! And that's really nice and refreshing to see :) I loved the hourglass-shaped text too-- adds a subtle artsy effect//
However, just one thing that bothered me- the blue really looks like a boy and the yellow looks like a girl and putting the guyish girl on the left, with the HC (haha get it? :)) logo, and the girl with the nanyang logo, I don't think any one would have noticed that they were both girls... maybe you could have made it more obvious?

But otherwise, both your designs are really cool and they work really well with the sports theme.
    Svena~
